In response to the terrorist attacks of 11th September 2001, the perceived risks to ships and their potential for terrorist use, the IMO have introduced an International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS). The ISPS code is compulsory international legislation, which applies to all commercial vessels (including charter yachts of over 500 gross registered tonnes) since the 1st July 2004.

Each vessel is required to have a trained Ship Security Officer, a certified Company Security Officer, a Flag approved Ship Security Assessment and Ship Security Plan and certain specialised Security Equipment fitted onboard. The flag state will carry out assessments and audits to ensure the security requirements of the code are being met. Once satisfied they will issue the relevant ISPS certificates.

Pelagos Yachts' team have been trained by professional security consultants. We are fully certified to act as a yacht's Company Security Officer (CSO) and can therefore perform the following functions for yacht owners; the Ship Security Assessment and On Scene Surveys, writing the Ship Security Plans, 24 hour coverage, updates on worldwide security alerts, liaison with the Port Facility Security Officers (PFSO).

Pelagos Yachts has the training and experience to assist Superyacht owners and captains with becoming compliant with the ISPS code.
