Federargenti advocating review of berthing tax
Federagenti, the industry body which represents over 50 companies involved in the mega-yacht industry is lobbying for a review of the proposed Italian berthing tax regime (see earlier article).
Acknowledging the crippling effect that the "Matriculation" tax has had on the Spanish yachting industry, Federagenti are wary not to see the Italians go down the same route.
They are looking to see certain modifications to the legislation
- To apply the tax based on ownership and not on days in Italian waters
- To limit the tax to Italian flagged vessels only;
- To exclude charter vessels.
To what extent the cash strapped Italian Government will accede to any amendments is yet to be seen. However with the Spanish already having played out this doomed blueprint, surely the wider picture will be acknowleged. We shall see!
